Re: [fast5] Re: Fast-5 and Atkins

Probably why we (humans) don't eat other carnivores. Herbivore livers don't get nearly that concentrated.

True. But there is a difference between animal and vegetable sources. According to http://www.dietitian.com/vitamina.html :

Animal sources are about six times more potent than vegetable sources and can be toxic if taken in excess. Because of this, Vitamin A supplements are restricted to carotenes and under limited to under 25,000 IU per pill. One ounce of polar bear liver contains enough Vitamin A (retinol) to kill a person!"

With total respect for everyones' views and choices....Vitamin A is found in animal products especially liver and it is added to milk along with the vitamin D.....but animal products are not the only source of vitamin A. It is also found in apricots, asparagus, beet greens, broccoli, cantaloupe, carrots, collards, peaches, pumpkin, garlic, kale, mustard greens, papayas etc etc..i have a whole list of them...im not going to type it all out but there are many many sources of vit.A in the plant world. And if youre into herbs there are many herbal souces of vitamin A as well.

Re: [fast5] Re: Day 5 with some questions

I haven't noticed an increase in need to drink. You are the 2nd person to post about that. For me, I have actually reduced my fluid intake. I was drinking close to 96oz of water a day now I am around 64 oz. Perhaps this is an adjustment in the insulin levels in our body's as we adapt to fast-5???

Sincerely

Jennifer Lupo, D.M.

Good luck with Fast5, I started this last Friday so today is day 9 for me. I was doing ADF before so jumped straight in on this eating 5pm to 10pm. I haven't really felt that hungry but have been drinking loads all day and have been keeping busy so I don't do my usual thing, esp on weekends, of curling up on the sofa with a coffee and lots of biscuits/chocolate etc. My energy levels have been great throughout. The first couple of days I felt so bloated when I started eating that I had trouble eating enough food (never been a problem for me before!) but that has resolved itself and I'm now happily munching through my window. lol

I have been and still am often thirsty dispite drinking far more liquid than I ever have before and woke up with a bit of a headache this morning which I think is due to dehydration as is now disipating since drinking 2 glasses of water. Haven't lost any weight but not an issue for me as I want to maintain though always happy to lose a few pounds, as long as I don't put weight on I'm happy to continue with this. It suits me as I get to cook and eat supper with my husband and evening snacking has always been my problem so doesn't matter now.

Haven't answered any of your queries I know, just thought I'd share my experience with you as have been on this about the same length of time. Let me know how you continue to get on with it. Good Luck :)

Niki

So on Saturday, I ate way too much all day and night and woke up on Sunday feeling miserable. I remembered that when I was thinner, I used to naturally fast or not eat much during the day and ate whatever I wanted at dinner...I never felt deprived and I was lean and felt great. So Sunday I decided to do a fast.
>
> While fasting, I did some research on fasting on-line and found Brad Pilon's Eat Stop Eat. While researching Eat Stop Eat (see how much extra time we have while fasting LOL?!) I discovered this diet and really felt it made more sense to me - this was naturally how I used to eat when I was 20 pounds lighter as I said before.
>
> So I started the Fast 5 on Monday. Today is Day 5. I have been following the diet to a tee although I didn't jump in cold turkey. I broke my fast at noon on Monday, then at 1:30 on Tuesday, and have been keeping with a 3:30 break-fast since then. My window ends at 8:30.
>
> Okay so anyway onto my questions. I haven't lost any weight yet although I've been drinking a lot more water and definitely eating healthier, for some reason salad and lean protein sound so much better than processed foods. I also don't stuff myself, I find very little food satisfies me and I am not gorging myself during my eating window. Is it normal not to see scale movement? I would normally feel discouraged but I feel so GREAT on this diet that I'm sticking with it. I also hate being a slave to my scale and am in no rush to lose the weight as I know that fast weight loss equals fast weight gain. I guess I wonder when did all of you start noticing fat loss results from this way of eating?
>
> Second question is that today has been really tough as far as hunger. I'm having hunger pains and feeling very distracted and headachy. This is the first day that this has occured, the past few days I've been quite content during my fasting period. It's been a struggle for sure today. Also normal for the early stages?
>
> Also wanted to know if you are taking vitamins or supplements to make up for anything possibly missing in your diet. If so, what do you take?
>
> Thanks so much, so glad to have found this diet and all of you! I still haven't told my friends or family about this WOE, I don't want to hear the criticisms that I'm starving myself and will never be able to maintain such a strange and fad diet, etc... I'll wait to tell them about it when my clothes start falling off of me LOL! So it's nice to have the support and someone to talk to.
