Fast-5 is like any other tool...it makes getting the job done easier, but it does nothing without your effort! And what an effort! Congrats!

Best wishes,

[fast5] Re: Is exercise necessary?

Aye, I believe it's Seratonin. One way to find out if someone has seratonin burnout is to see if exercise has a significant improvement on their mood.

Insofar as what my philosophy exercise is...I do rather like the "primal" approach espoused by Mark Sisson (Kristina posted the link).

Walk a lot
Sprint for very brief periods
Lift Heavy objects
"Play" (aka, chase your dog around the yard, play soccer, dance your heart out, etc)
Don't be stupid (aka, don't drop those heavy objects on your feet, don't get into car accidents, etc)

If exercise makes someone feel burned out, chances that some gland somewhere needs help. Adrenal glands seem to be a common culprit.

It hasn't helped much with my weight anyways, although I can't say it hasn't done ANYTHING for me. I truly love working out, but sometimes I feel. . .burnt out. I feel tired of it, and taking two-three days off at a time doesn't help. Right now, I have gone two weeks without a workout, and kind of liking the break. While doing Fast Five, I don't feel the need to really exercise like crazy to burn calories, because fasting already burns stored fat. I don't feel as guilty as I would if I were snacking all day. I guess what I'm trying to ask is, is this bad? Do you all go through the same things? What do you do to get at least 1/2 hour in a day?

I have heard that exercise releases a pleasurable natural chemical into your brain that is similar to opiates, and that you can get "addicted" to exercise....

Me, I AM lazy, I have to force myself to exercise! I will exercise every day for two or three months, then slack for at least that long or longer, then force myself to start again....

RE: [fast5] Is exercise necessary?

Go to www.marksdailylapple.com and download his free exercise e-book. Great information. Hours of cardio will get you no-where except to burning muscle which is the last thing you want. If you follow Mark’s exercise guide combined with a low carb/high fat diet and IF you should be good to go.

There really isn't a lot of data that says "hours" of exercise does much good. For building muscle, a few repetitions of intense weight actually work very well. In one article I read, the amount of weight to use was the amount where the MOST a person could do was 8 reps. The idea is to stress out the muscle, and the bone, which builds both.

That kind of exercise, is done in 15 minutes. Very fast. And it should be done slowly, which makes it almost zen-like. Doesn't give joint injuries either.

As for aerobic exercise: some types of it aren't very good for you. It can cause joint and other issues. I think it is better to "get moving" with something that you enjoy, and maybe does some good, like gardening.

Also there is the hyper-fast kind of stress out your breathing kinds of exercise, like "spinning". I think that is good for pulmonary function, again, without taking tons of time.

But in terms of "peace of mind" ... it depends WHY exercise gives you that peace. Some of it might be that it helps "burn off" cortisol (I don't recall the exact way it does this, but excess cortisol is one problem people have and exercise counteracts it). Fast-5 does, I think, help regulate cortisol also. So does yoga and meditation.

So yeah, it might help. But of course the way to figure it out is to try it and see!

Re: [fast5] Is exercise necessary?

If you don't exercise, your joints will not have the necessary squeeze they need to have your cartilage feed with nutrients and the result is arthitis, painful joints and so on...

try find a sport you do for pleasure. For me, pr exemple, I love swimming, in the pool. in the sea, when I skeep classes for whatever reason I really miss the pleasure I get from it, the feeling of the water onto my body when I dive in the pool..... Althought I've been swimming daily since aug/2005, it has not done that much for my wight loss....in fact it makes me very hungry after swimming, but I try to drink a LOT OF WATER right afterthe practice and wait till I can eat...
