But I also wanted to point out that since you're concerned with conserving energy, Fast-5 could actually be very beneficial. The digestive process uses a huge amount of energy. So if you eat all day, you're actually using more energy than by just eating during your window. I wanted to stress though, if you do get back on Fast-5 while you're healing make sure to *try* to include as many antioxidants as you can to help repair. Also fish oil might not be good at this point because it tends to thin the blood and since the stitches keep coming out... I think you know where this is heading... Having said that, I wouldn't shy away from fatty foods right now. You have to regrow many different cells which all require lots of good fats and fat soluble vitamins to heal properly. Bone broth would be really good for you right now. I'd also stay away from sugar and grains too. They raise triglycerides and cause all sorts of oxidative damage and stress.
So that 15 extra pounds IS energy- 52,500 calories to be exact. But as long as you're getting enough calories during your window, you'll have all the energy you need without losing much weight. Doctors tell diabetics to keep on eating pies and candy and keep shooting up insulin. Getting medical advice on nutrition is like asking a four star general how to have world peace. Sort of. Anyway, I'd go with Fast-5 at least for a little and see how you feel. When animals are sick or injured, they stop eating instinctively. It's a natural energy saving reaction. I'd go for it.
