Re: [fast5] Re: Fast 5 After Major Surgery

BTW, I wanted to mention that fasting in general has been investigated in terms of cancer. Fasting did NOT make the cancer worse ... in fact it helped in treatment.

I don't know specifically about healing from surgery, but in general Fast-5 tends to give the body a break from digesting, so it can do some repair work, in my experience.

The more I think about it, the more I think the heat pad idea might help a lot. The stitches dissolve via a chemical process, and most chemical processes go faster when there is more heat. I looked up the stitches not dissolving issue, and it seems to be pretty common, esp. in women? It might well have to do with differences in body temps. Stitches near the skin are likelier to be "colder" than those deep inside the body too.

Just be careful not to burn yourself ... pay attention to the heat level and don't trap the heat pad between yourself and a blanket (they can get really hot that way). Low-key electric blankets can work too. I have a low-wattage one that I curl up in sometimes, and it seems to never get too hot:

Hyperthermia tends to kill cancer cells:

And moderate levels of heat have been used for centuries to promote healing in general. And unlikely to do harm!

Also I'd add another push for eggs. Egg protein is the most "complete" and the yolk has vitamins, lecithin, and other stuff that your body needs for healing. People got scared off from eggs, but body builders used to swear by them, and Bruce Lee was big on eggs too.

But I also wanted to point out that since you're concerned with conserving energy, Fast-5 could actually be very beneficial.  The digestive process uses a huge amount of energy.  So if you eat all day, you're actually using more energy than by just eating during your window.  I wanted to stress though, if you do get back on Fast-5 while you're healing make sure to *try* to include as many antioxidants as you can to help repair.  Also fish oil might not be good at this point because it tends to thin the blood and since the stitches keep coming out... I think you know where this is heading... Having said that, I wouldn't shy away from fatty foods right now.  You have to regrow many different cells which all require lots of good fats and fat soluble vitamins to heal properly.  Bone broth would be really good for you right now.  I'd also stay away from sugar and grains too.  They raise triglycerides and cause all sorts of oxidative damage and stress.

So that 15 extra pounds IS energy- 52,500 calories to be exact.  But as long as you're getting enough calories during your window, you'll have all the energy you need without losing much weight.  Doctors tell diabetics to keep on eating pies and candy and keep shooting up insulin.  Getting medical advice on nutrition is like asking a four star general how to have world peace.  Sort of.  Anyway, I'd go with Fast-5 at least for a little and see how you feel.  When animals are sick or injured, they stop eating instinctively.  It's a natural energy saving reaction.  I'd go for it.

Wishing you a speedy recovery!

... I'm just wondering if anyone has ever done this protocol while recovering from major surgery.  Or what are peoples thoughts on it?
