Thanks for your response Heather. Your story sounds similar to mine
except I ended up with a severe case of Hashi's on top of all that. I
broke my neck, was paralyzed from the neck down (blessed with a full
recovery) in an accident when I was 18 & always thought that's where
the thyroid problems came from. Went to numerous doctors over the years
with symptoms (thyroid and gluten intolerance symptoms obvious to me
now) and they would either tell me its all in my head, I was just being
lazy, give me pain & other various meds, or they'd try and put me on
antidepressants- all of which I refused. I have learned so much about
my own body over the years. I will be 52 in Jan. Its been a long hard
journey but I'm grateful things are finally falling into place. The
human body is an amazing work of art. Too bad it takes years of study
on our part to learn how to care for it these days.
Thank you to the other person that responded to me also. I saw the book
Wheat Belly at the book store. The name sorta cracks me up. So true!
There's even a chapter in it called...somethin' somethin'..."and Man
Boobs". That cracked me up too:-) I've read a lot about the effects of
gluten and processed foods, "Wheat Belly" looks like a great one. I
will probably try and get it from the library. If I like it a lot it
will be one that I buy. I've got a pretty large collection of books, a
big section is all on true nutrition and health that I'm collecting for
my daughters. They have already learned a ton from me and their own
research but I want to leave them a lot of good references for when the
day comes that I am no longer around:-)
