That's the beauty of Fasting, puts you in Low Insulin state even if you eat crap. We have been brainwashed for years to believe in Calories IN/ Calories OUT, a falsity.

A number of us doing Fast-5 have commented how very little food a body actually NEEDS. I think somehow when you snack all day long, the body doesn't bother actually using most of the calories. Either they feed the gut bacteria, or it gets stored as fat.

OTOH, when matched for exercise levels, Chinese men eat MORE calories than American men and are skinnier, healthier, and don't have insulin level problems. I suspect if carbs were the root of all dietary evils, that several billion people in Asia would all be very, very fat.

Although there are plenty of calories in Asian food, and lots of carbs, they have not "snacked" much, traditionally. This is true in much of Europe too, where the snack companies are working hard to expand their market. In most countries, traditionally, there was a small breakfast and a big dinner. Dinner was a lot of work to make, when you don't have a stove or fridge or pre-packaged food. And people worked hard most of the day. So dinner became a ritual, a feast, a time to get together around the fire. I think eating was "more like" Fast-5 than it ever was like the "grazing" that has been promoted in the US. "Grazing" is all about selling snack products and protein bars, I think.
