Re: [fast5] HELP! End of Week 1 - No Weight Loss

No one gains, or loses, 4 lbs in one day. That kind of weight difference is basically water ... your body gains and loses water weight rather easily.

The thing is, fat doesn't actually weigh much. If you get a pile of cow fat, for instance, you will see that it takes a lot of bulk to make up a couple of pounds. But a pound of water is only 2 cups. So basically, drinking a tall glass of water, you gain a pound. When you eat some foods, like watermelon, you can lose weight quickly. When you eat more salt, you gain weight, because your body "keeps" more of the water. I know someone who is on Lasix, and lost 20 lbs in very short order ... all water!

Also, when you start working out, your body can "lean up" and become very dense. My daughter is thin and very athletic, but on BMI charts she shows up as "fat".

So this whole emphasis on "losing pounds" is kind of illogical. The most successful people l've seen are ones that work on their whole body ... instead of counting pounds, count how many pushups you can do, or how well you can stretch, or how you feel, or measure how much fat is on the outside of your arm.

But it does take a couple of weeks, at least, for your body to adapt to any new way of eating. You can adapt slowly so hunger isn't such an issue, but your body isn't going to do extreme weight loss quickly, if you are losing fat in a healthy way. Losing fat quickly isn't that great an idea anyway, because your fat stores toxins that your body has to handle as the fat goes away, so gradual is better.

HELP! I've managed to do "FAST 5" for a week now, and I'm getting discouraged.

Day 1: 196 lbs
Day 4: 192 lbs
Day 7: 196 lbs - AGAIN!!!

I understand the weight loss takes 2-3 weeks to 'kick in' but I'm starting to wonder.

What were your results? When did weight loss start for you!
How much did YOU lose? How much are you losing every week?

I would appreciate some feedback.

If 'starving' myself (skipping breakfast & lunch) everyday doesn't work, then I don't know WHAT to do.
