You might get your blood ferritin levels checked. High iron levels are very much associated with high glucose levels and insulin resistance. My blood glucose was around 95, and with Fast-5, donating blood, a low-iron-absorption diet, and a few other things, it's now at 83.
Drinking vinegar several times throughout the day might help ... I think it studies it took several weeks for it to make a difference. Eating konjac with meals can help too: it causes food to get absorbed more gradually, so it doesn't spike insulin. Cinnamon and turmeric, IIRC, also help.
Donating blood, in studies, works rather nicely for helping Type 2 diabetes.
One problem, I think, with low-carb is that the low-carb diets are often based on lots of meat, which is high in iron. Carbs are often loaded with iron too, because most starches in the US have added iron and potatoes have it naturally. But iron is pretty easy to block: a cup of tea with a meal can do it, and avoiding Vit C or fruits with meals that have iron.
If your glucose levels only go up while fasting, you might also try some exercise. Sometimes high cortisol levels will increase glucose levels. Cortisol tends to be produced when people don't eat, to allow glucose to be released into the blood. But sometimes too much cortisol is produced, which puts your blood sugar high (and can also make you feel lousy). In that case, exercise can help. Try something strenuous, like weight lifting or squats? Adrenaline counteracts the cortisol, I think.

Hi,
Sorry for the long post. I've been doing Fast-5 about 2 years now. I have trouble with high blood sugar at times. I'm not on any medication, just trying to do it with lowcarb eating and exercise. When I first started Fast-5, I checked my sugars throughout the day and except for the first week I started, they stayed in pretty good range (95-120). I recently became aware that I have what's called the Dawn Phenomenon, which means my blood sugar rises sometime in the early morning. I recently started checking first thing in the morning and my blood sugar has been high (140-150) and it keeps climbing. I tried just eating a little bit, like a few slices of Parm cheese - but that didn't really help. Last night before bed I drank water with vinegar. This morning my sugar was lower than its been (129) - still not good but lower than it has been. Well I checked an hour later and it was 164. So I don't know what to do - I love eating this way, but I can't have high blood sugar a good part of the 24 hour day. I thought about just changing my window to eat breakfast and lunch, but I know I wouldn't be able to not eat at night (dinner). I would appreciate any suggestions or input anyone has.
Thanks,
Cindy
