If the numbers come down all by themselves by 2pm, it sounds like they might be more related to cortisol than to food. Do you do any exercises? I think weight lifting first thing in the morning might make a big difference. If you have never done weights, try doing as many pushups as you can, even if the only kinds you can handle are "on the corner" pushups. Or jumping jacks, or even just stretching or yoga. Exercise first thing in the morning has good effects.

    Thanks for your suggestion of eating an egg and almonds before bed.  I think I will try that and see if I have better numbers in the morning.  However the other problem I am having is (even if my numbers are good when I get up), they continue to rise because I'm not eating anything all day.  They stay pretty high until around 2:00 p.m. when they will start to go down.  So it looks like I may have to do a modified Fast-5 where I eat something with substance in the morning and then fast the rest of the day until dinner.
