Re: [fast5] One meal a day, eating enough?

One of the nice things about this eating style is that it tends to retrain your appetite so that it actually *works* ... that is, you eat what you actually need. There is no one on earth who can tell you what your body needs at any given moment. But your body has a huge number of neurons devoted to just that purpose, and when they are working, they will signal you when your really need food.

If you are over-fat though, you are probably carrying around enough stored energy to get you through the winter, like a bear does. So if you feel good, and are not starving, don't worry about it.

When you use your stored fat and glycogen, you ARE eating, just as surely as you would be if you were eating ice cream all morning. Your muscle cells don't actually know or care when you last ate: they use whatever is floating around in your bloodstream, and most of us have plenty of lipids and glucose all the time. So just think to yourself: "I am eating out of the pantry" (i.e. the stored food!).

Eating is supposed to work kind of like gassing up a car. You gas up the car once a week or so, and use the gas out of the tank the rest of the time. You don't constantly stop at gas stations to fill up a teeny little tank! But your engine doesn't really care how often you gas up, as long as gas arrives.

When you do get "hungry" ... this is mainly a hormonal signalling designed to get you up and moving to make a meal, not that your cells are actually out of stuff to use. I proved this to me by using a glucometer. It turns out that for me, when I am "weak with hunger" my glucose level is actually way higher than usual ... about 120 ... probably because my body has the cortisol turned way up, which is what causes the shakes. This hasn't happened at all since I've been doing Fast-5, which is rather nice.

BTW, in our family, our food bill dropped hugely. Even for the athletic members of the family. Although they are muscular and energetic, they don't eat nearly "enough" according to the charts. I think the food gets used more efficiently.

Hey everyone I am new to this lifestyle and I have lost 6 pounds already. I lost it really quickly though because I am eating one meal a day. One nice big meal though like rice meat and veggies and one dessert along with a healthy beverage.I'm also taking a daily vitamin (centrum) Just wondering if there's a problem with me not eating enough? Or is that enough? What are the draw backs with not eating enough? Or to much, heath wise. I love the way I feel and look though. Thank you.
