As I've enjoyed others' stories about their success, thought I'd add in my own.
Last week, after being literally fed up with my weight and disgusted with myself, I started Fast 5 on Friday (the 15th). From that day to this morning, I've had five perfect fasting days (and it's so easy to tell when you're perfect -- don't eat outside your window, you're perfect! DUH!)
Results for those five days: At least two pounds lost (maybe more - not sure exactly), my hunger levels are fine, and I feel much more energetic all the time. I absolutely LOVE not having to figure out points or plan my meals ahead (though I do find myself thinking about what I want to eat in my window -- that's a pleasure).
The behavioral stuff is really interesting. Friday night (my first day of Fast 5), my window had closed before my son's baseball game ended, and he wanted to go out to eat afterward. We went to Hardee's with friends. He had a burger and fries; my friends and husband did too. I had nothing and felt fine, enjoyed socializing with everyone else. No deprivation.
The next night we went out to dinner again after a baseball tournament -- and yes, my window had closed again. (I didn't know we were going out, or I'd have planned for it.) This time, I watched my children eat burgers and salads and fries, and my husband had a thick sandwich. I had hot tea and diet Pepsi. Didn't feel deprived for a second.
Last night my son played baseball again (he lives for it -- can you tell?) Afterward he got a thick burger and fries from Sonic. I sat with him and watched TV. Truthfully, at that point I was hungry (hadn't eaten enough during my window) but decided I was NOT going to break my fast for some junk food. Not worth it.
I made myself hot tea and enjoyed it. No more hunger pangs. (Rewarded this morning when my scale read lower than it had in months.)
I haven't eaten yet this morning but feel absolutely fine. Looking forward to lunch around 1 and a Zumba class at 6:15.
I wonder if anyone else started this slowly with weight loss? Usually I have a big weight loss the first week of any new program, and of course hoped for the same here. At the same time, I see my appetite clearly decreasing, my hunger signals becoming more defined, and my energy stabilizing, so I know when I need to eat and when I'm ready to stop (LOVE that!) All those signs are excellent, imo, but is this kind of slow drop to be expected, even in the first week?
Frankly, I'm feeling so good (NO acid reflux at all since I started, which is a big deal!) that I'm willing to wait a little on the weight loss. But it would be nice if I could hear from others about what they've experienced and what to expect.
Thanks!
Susan
