Re: [fast5] Re: rheumatoid arthritis

There is a fair bit of evidence now, thanks to Dr. Fasano, that gluten triggers the release of zonulin, which causes the intestinal wall to become permeable. This is probably the trigger for much of the epidemic of autoimmune diseases we are getting these days. So the good news is: if that's the trigger, there is a fix! Bad news is, the autoimmune problems don't always go away when the gluten is gone.

There was an interesting article just published, showing that the GF diet helps people that are not classically "celiac":

Anyway, it's worth a shot, esp. since there are so many GF foods available now.

I think Fast-5 helps with the gut permeability too, for people that DO eat gluten, because then the gut is only permeable for part of the day maybe, rather than all day with continuous snacking.

There is also some interesting research regarding neu5gc and RA, though it seems to be still in the study phase:

I was having problems with my "synovial tissues" that appear to have been from iron accumulation: I went on a "low iron" diet and those got a lot better. But whether it was from low iron or the fact that I'm eating a lot more fish, I don't know (fish oil is good for joints too).

Yep, I have to jump on the gluten free bandwagon as well.  If I cut out gluten, my joints stop hurting.
