I agree. I did the Warrior Diet in the past (the name comes from a book by that name). It's a very easy "diet", and makes an easy transition to Fast-5. In fact, a lot of people doing the Warrior Diet seem to drop the raw fruits and vegies during the day, just because they forget to eat them. Raw fruits and vegies don't have a huge impact on insulin if they are whole (don't do juices: one cup of juice equals a lot of fruit!). And it's easy to put an apple or a banana in a bag to take to work. Meat is allowed too, in limited quantities, and it can be helpful, esp. if you are under stress. I used to have a big salad for lunch, with a little smoked salmon on top and some vinegar dressing.


The thing to avoid is the baked starches, esp. the donuts etc. Those are stressful on the body and will tend to make you sleepy. Starches increase serotonin, plus give you a blood sugar drop later which makes you hungrier. Fish, on the other hand, have proteins which will help keep you awake. Other foods that are sleep-inducing are milk and turkey.

When I was in college I was also working, and also got very little sleep! I would always have fish (and pop a ginko pill) before an exam. Turmeric has been shown to help with test taking too, but I didn't know it back then. I generally only had one meal a day, but I didn't know about Fast-5 or the Warrior Diet ... I just didn't have time, and I had to eat whatever I could pack, which usually ended up being a salad. I was skinny back then! But I also had a lot of energy even with the lack of sleep.

Anyway, whether or not you do Fast-5 exactly by the book, you can help yourself get through school by planning what you eat rather than going for the usual junk that students stuff into their mouths. You can save money too, and time. Invest in a good food bag, fill it with fruits and vegies you really like, and snack as needed!

(BTW, being a nurse and knowing about nutrition is a great thing! Kudos to you!).

Both of these ideas have been discussed quite a bit in the archive (as well as the book) if you want to browse, and I can vouch for (and highly recommend) both of them as virtually pain-free methods for transitioning to IF while holding down a demanding job and energetic lifestyle.  I feel that allowing the transition as much time as it needs really can't be stressed too much - this really is the very opposite of a "must have it all now" approach.  Don't push - your goal should be to move systematically towards a healthy and sustainable lifestyle that you can maintain over the long haul (or what's the point?) by which stage how long it took to get there will be lost in the mists of time.

About 4 weeks ago I started Fast5 for the second time. (I gained 10 pounds
and couldn't stand it anymore).
3 weeks ago I started Nursing program. It's very intence program. I don't
get to sleep more than 4 hours a day, so I am awake for a long time. My
problem that it's very hard to stay till late night or early morning and eat
nothing. My window is 3-8pm.
I don't want to quit this way of eating, but it's getting harder (because of
school) to keep it going. Do you have any advice for me how I can stay
"alive" and I mean it: school takes so much of energy. So far I was able
to hide from my family that I started Fast 5 again since they were not
supportive before and kept saying that I have to eat for my brain to work.
I really don't want to quit, so any advise would be so appreciated.
I haven't weight myself since I started because I'm affraid to see my
result, but I promise I'll make myself do it and will post the result to
encourage everyone. I only wish that I have more energy, though.
