[fast5] Re: Today is day 2 for me! I have a question.

Hi Teala. Welcome to the forum! I'm in week 6 and also work out fairly strenuously (strength training, biking, martial arts). Although I'm doing great now, there were a lot of ups and downs for the first month. Was alternately feeling great and then having energy crashes and cravings for mega doses of high-carb food and water (over a gallon a day for 2 weeks!). It wasn't enough to make me quit, but it did make me sit up and take notice what my body was telling me (more like screaming sometimes :)).

Having enough energy to work out was problematic at times. I never count calories, so I can't help you there. But I did pay attention to what my body wanted to eat and how much, which is very effective for me. There was a period when I needed to eat more the night before a workout. Sometimes a lot more. For instance: 2 plates of pasta, big salad, 2 hamburger patties, yogurt w/3 tblsp of honey, nuts, dates,  prunes and a banana slathered with peanut butter and chocolate sauce. This was one meal in my eating window.  Now, I'm not a big guy (135 lbs.) and this is an enormous amount of food for me, yet I was not stuffed! And I was still losing weight. Thankfully, I'm through that phase and am back to eating my more normal portions.

Before I gave myself permission to really eat,  I had a couple of major energy crashes during workouts. I stopped exercising immediately and had something to eat, usually some kind of protein/fat. After about 10-15 minutes I could continue the workout--carefully.

The gist of all this is that for those of us who work out, you really have to pay attention to body signals. And don't be afraid to eat, even if it seems like way too much. If you're not stuffing, it's not too much.   FF is wonderful once you are used to it, but as Dr. Herring states in his book,  there may be an adjustment period as your body figures out what's going on.  Keep us posted!

I do have a question though for anyone who would be willing to answer. What/how many calories do you consume during your 5 hour window? I want to make sure that I am eating enough (I work out fairly strenuously 4 days a week) but not too much. I am, however, making sure to eat mostly nutritious foods.
