Raw fish is easy and eaten in many cultures. It doesn't fit with "raw vegan" though, which I guess is what I was talking about because of the original post. One could probably survive just dandy on a raw diet that included raw fish and egg yolks (whites can be problematic for biotin, but my Dad just ate whole raw eggs and the Japanese do too). That diet would include good fats and whole protein. Eggs are pretty much a whole food of themselves and I've used them successfully to raise baby animals.
With raw fish you do have to be careful about parasites. Liver I would be careful with: beef don't have a lot of parasites they can give to people, but they do get liver flukes. What bothers me more is that all the junk that is filtered out of the blood ends up in the kidneys or liver or spleen, which end up as a dumping ground for all kinds of toxins, and I don't even know which ones. I tend to get too much iron in my diet though, so I avoid it on that count. But again, those aren't vegan foods.
But a raw diet that was ONLY vegan? It would be difficult to pull off without some rather well-made processed food I think? To get enough raw fruits/vegies to sustain a human being requires lots of bulk and chewing, esp. if one is eating in a 5-hour window. Some foods, like avocados, might make it easier. Most of the other foods I can think of that would be good high-caloric vegan foods also require processing ... like nuts and legumes, which require at least soaking and usually cooking to detox them. (Some beans I think are ok after they are sprouted, and green edmame are ok, but others can make you really sick: I'm guessing the raw food community has figured out how to make some of these things work?).

I do like raw fish (think Sashimi) and I just sear my other meat normally. I also eat cooked fish though too.....currently.....
I also like liver a lot and I cook that. I've never tried it uncooked before.
Anyway, I had a good appreciation of your post Heather and it reminded me of how I eat.
