Re: [fast5] Mono-Meals? In desperate need of advice, Please!

I do like raw fish (think Sashimi) and I just sear my other meat normally. I also eat cooked fish though too.....currently.....
I also like liver a lot and I cook that. I’ve never tried it uncooked before.

Anyway, I had a good appreciation of your post Heather and it reminded me of how I eat.

One good thing about mono-meals is that if you react to some food, you
will know about it really quickly. A good portion of the US population
reacts to one of the main dietary foods of our country (wheat/dairy/corn/
soy). Going raw avoids those, so people feel better. But if you also
go mono, then when you eat, say, oranges, you'll know really quickly
if oranges make you feel bad.

That said, it takes a LOT of raw vegies/fruits to support a human
being, and no matter how much of them you eat, it's really difficult
to get enough omega-3 fatty acids or the right sort of protein on them.
Many of the foods that have the protein are also a bit toxic in
their raw form (like legumes).

Now you take that AND combine it with Fast-5, and you are talking
about a fairly severe nutritional deficit. Good way to lose weight
in a short term (if you can stick to it), but maybe not so good
for your body if done longer term?

Our ancestors, and some other cultures currently, did consume
a fair bit of their food raw. The stuff they ate raw though was
typically fish, shellfish or insects. It's interesting to see in
the Korean or Japanese diet, they will often eat fish raw,
but hardly ever eat vegies raw (traditionally). Raw ocean fish
is usually pretty safe, but raw vegies often have parasites
traditionally, because manure was used for fertilizer.

(Raw freshwater fish often has parasites that affect humans,
but the Korean and Japanese cultures didn't do freshwater fish
so much, being islands).

As for low-fat raw-vegan ... I can't think of ANY culture that survives
on that, and it is severely bad for little kid's brain development.
I have known a person who did it, but he got really, really skinny
and eventually gave it up. If you want to get skinny though, it works.
