One thing that helps with bowel movements is to get more fiber. It helps
with hunger too. Most American diets are very low in vegetables, and
your gut really likes you to eat vegetables. My meals are about 3/4
vegetables (usually stir fry) to 1/4 protein (usually fish), with some rice
or other starch. Also with soup when I think about it. It's quite filling
and satisfying, and my gut is very happy.
In another diet the mantra is:
1. Start your meal with a soup or salad.
2. Then eat some protein
3. Then eat some vegetables.
4. Then if you are still hungry, have some starch.
5. Last, have some dessert.
Don't try to regulate 1,2 and 3. Eat LOTS. By the time you get to 4
and 5, you won't have much room. You don't have to give up anything,
but you will retrain your body as to what it likes.
The main thing is: don't break your fast with some easy starchy thing.
That is the habit in this country: easy starchy things. Those foods
don't trigger your "stop" button the way they should, and they do odd
things to your blood sugar and gut receptors that allow you to overeat
big time. Protein and vegies do the opposite.
As for weight loss ... it's probably better to just concentrate on
food choices and timing for now. Some people need time for their body
to adapt. And since this isn't a really low calorie diet, there can be
fat loss without water or muscle loss, which isn't as noticeable.

> Hi everyone. I'm a newbie here. I read the Fast 5 e-book and I started eating just once a day about 3 weeks ago. The first week for my one meal I didn't make the healthiest choices. I ate pizza and hamburgers a few times. This past week I've been eating salads and lean protein for my meal. I still have a few bites of cheesecake and a few crackers. I'm a junk food junkie and it's been hard trying to stop cold turkey.

I also know that he says one pound of weight loss a week was what to expect, but I've eaten this way before and I've always lost a few pounds a week. Yesterday I had maybe 900 calories total. I'm shooting for 1,000 a day (I'm under 5' tall).
