[fast5] First post -- what a great group!

Hello, all --

This is my first post -- I just found this group about a week ago and have been lurking ever since, and am very interested in the discussion and the success stories reported here.

I esp. appreciate the point that we really have to decide for ourselves what type of diet works best for us and use it, as there is merit in many options (vegetarian vs. meat-eating, grains vs. no grains, etc.) I think I really needed to read that, because I've been struggling with my weight for some years now (after being a perfect size 5 in the '80's, oh, dear!) But two pregnancies and raising 2 kids plus attendant stress will do that. I just need an approach I can use that's simple and clear and flexible, so it can work with my life.

I did start this last weekend and managed quite well the first day, but this week has been the busiest I've had in 3 1/2 years. However, because I'm working a new job and have almost no time to myself, I didn't have a lot of time to think about food during my non-eating hours -- I was just too busy -- so I didn't feel hungry. I clerked in our municipal elections Tuesday and though I did have a handful of pretzels during the day (and that was literally all I ate), I only sat down to a meal around 9:30 that night, because it was the only time I really had to eat. My weight has been dropping (4 pounds) and I've been feeling measurably more energetic and stronger, though I have eaten a very small meal usually early in the day. (And I know that's not Fast-5; it's just what I thought was prudent this week.)

Now that it's the weekend, my plan is to use my window -- eat perhaps 2 to 7 and drink lots of water the rest of the time. I'm not where I want to be as far as following the plan, but on the other hand, this week was definitely not the week to start something else: I trained for and began a new job, clerked for 3 precincts in an election, hosted a party (because I was on television and people came over to watch the show with me), and did 3 very stressful days of work in my new position, along with writing 5,000 words of a novel for a contest. (Believe me, my weeks are not always like this!)

I'm thinking, you know, that this coming week is a better time to go full out with Fast-5 ...

Meanwhile, though, thanks for the helpful information. I'm thrilled that I found this group and esp. thrilled that it seems the program works for so many people ... I find that a very good sign, and I plan to be one of those for whom it's the perfect solution.
