Hi All..
I have not posted for quite some time.
I watched the low carb videos with interest. I also have been reading all the interesting posts and enjoy the conversations going on in this forum.
I started my weight loss on March 1, 2010 and so far, have lost 25 pounds. I started out on Atkins and lost quite quickly. As for me, I do believe that protein suppresses the appetite. I am not as hungry so quickly after protein.
For the last month, I have pretty well been at a plateau and mainly maintaining. I feel primarily is because I have eased up with the proteins. I am a diabetic with kidney disease and am concerned about protein. Too much meat also makes me feel sluggish and bloated. I switched to whey protein shakes and limit the protein so I am not losing as much, maybe.
Another thing that concerns me about Atkins is the fats. Yes, if I am having meat, I want that flavorful fat.
I am getting ready to step it up on a temporary basis and see what happens as I do think the protein does kick in weight loss. However, some studies have suggested that soy protein can actually slow progression of kidney disease and fatty liver. So, I am thinking of doing mostly protein shakes. I am not sure if I want to do this 1 week at a time or every other day. I also believe I need to find ways to get in more activity as I have been quite sedentary
. I am so terrible at exercise. I would like to take out my WII Fit which I love, but will have to find a time that my kids do not fight me for it
During this process, I have lowered my insulin needs by 10 Units. Carbs of course have adverse reactions on blood sugars. I have come down from size 24 to size 18 with a goal of size 14 by Christmas, so need to work really hard.
I love Fast5, but because of the insulin, I find it impossible to always stick with a 5 hour window. My body feels wonderful fasting though.
Before, I would be huffing and puffing walking across the street or after even 5 minutes doing housework. After I cut back on the meat and was only eating a bit due to insulin drops, I all of a sudden noticed I was not out of breath and was able to get through my housework without tiring! I am thrilled about this of course and do not want to stop it.
With Atkins, I think people do not eat as many calories as it seems. There are some days, I barely get in 500 calories and I am satisfied. I think sometimes, we should just listen to our bodies. I get tired of hearing that I have to take in at least 1400 calories, etc. I am tired of hearing of starvation modes. If medical science is so great, why do these scientists keep changing their minds?
What works for one, may not work for another.
I wish everyone success and keep the topics coming.
Sarah
