Re: [fast5] Re: Sleepy after eating

Well, in a lot of cultures, people DO sleep in the afternoon. My animals do too. For awhile the idea of a "power nap" was the rage: if you take a small nap in the middle of the day, it increases your mental acuity.

While small children typically take naps in the afternoon, our culture generally frowns upon mid-day sleep; however, even in those who get enough sleep (but particularly in those who don't), many people experience a natural increase in drowsiness in the afternoon, about 8 hours after waking. And research shows that you can make yourself more alert reduce stress and improve cognitive functioning with a nap. Mid-day sleep, or a 'power nap', means more patience, less stress, better reaction time, increased learning, more efficiency and better health.

I LOVE my 30 minute afternoon nap. Usually toward the end of it, I am semi-awake and that is when the solution to whatever daily problem I have appears in my head (sometimes I dream it).

I am noticing that I get sleepy in the afternoon sometimes, and sometimes before I eat, on an empty tummy, so maybe the sleepiness has nothing to do with food....

I don't get it every day, I get it off and on.

Sometimes the sleepiness is so heavy I have to lay down.

Other days I am not sleepy at all.

Also I tried eating a heavy meal late before bedtime, with some carbs too, and it didn't make me sleepy. (As I had hoped!)

So I have to watch more, what else is going on.

I drink tea some days, only in the morning. yet there doesn't seem to be a correlation...
