[fast5] Re: BBC special on low carb

Appears you have done well on your weight loss. More should document waist size, instead of simply pounds, which show improvement slower than inches, for a mental health pat on the back.

Many of us have pointed out flaws in that BBC "documentary", even including many carbs with fat in their so-called Atkins study. Soy protein is like poison to Males, with increased estrogen levels. Not sure if it's conducive to good health, even with females. Animal fats keep getting more glowing reports. The saturated fat BS, is simply THAT. Robert Atkins only started to pull back on the saturated animal fat, with the flak he kept getting by the "low-fat" brainwashed media. Especially, the American Heart association still calls saturated animal fat evil, rather than the real culprit of carbohydrates.

If you find yourself able to get by with only 400 calories some days you might be a candidate to try some ADF, alternate day fasting, where you fast 2 or 3 days a week for 36 hours. The other Yahoo group about fasting has several who see more benefits from ADF than just Fast-5. After all, it's the FASTING time, not the oft-quoted eating window, that is the key to success. With bigger success possible with the longer fasting periods of ADF, you'll find that even on days were you decide to "cheat" it can be back down to a Fast-5 style of eating that day. Fast-5, once habituated to Alternate Day Fasting, then becomes "a piece of cake".

I am a diabetic with kidney disease and am concerned about protein. Too much meat also makes me feel sluggish and bloated. I switched to whey protein shakes and limit the protein so I am not losing as much, maybe.

However, some studies have suggested that soy protein can actually slow progression of kidney disease and fatty liver. So, I am thinking of doing mostly protein shakes. I am not sure if I want to do this 1 week at a time or every other day. I also believe I need to find ways to get in more activity as I have been quite sedentary . I am so terrible at exercise. I would like to take out my WII Fit which I love, but will have to find a time that my kids do not fight me for it During this process, I have lowered my insulin needs by 10 Units. Carbs of course have adverse reactions on blood sugars. I have come down from size 24 to size 18 with a goal of size 14 by Christmas, so need to work really hard.

After I cut back on the meat and was only eating a bit due to insulin drops, I all of a sudden noticed I was not out of breath and was able to get through my housework without tiring! I am thrilled about this of course and do not want to stop it.
> With Atkins, I think people do not eat as many calories as it seems. There are some days, I barely get in 500 calories and I am satisfied. I think sometimes, we should just listen to our bodies. I get tired of hearing that I have to take in at least 1400 calories, etc. I am tired of hearing of starvation modes. If medical science is so great, why do these scientists keep changing their minds?
