RE: [fast5] Reality Check (Sharron)

Hi Karen,

I have been on fast5 for over a week. I had been in a stall to lose any weigh for a year on no grain/low carb/no sugar diet.  I guess my body was just ready, the weight just melted off on fast5,

I feel so good. It has been a long, long hard road, I was addicted to sugar and ate constantly (every, yes every waking minute) and was in poor health with uncontrolled blood sugar/uncontrolled blood pressure/high cholesterol. Fast5 has been so helpful to me. The disipline I have makes me feel like I have a great love for myself finally.

I identify with what your wrote. I am new to fast5. I have tried every diet in the past and have been 10 lbs. from my goal feeling like I am barely hanging on with hunger, headaches and cravings constantly it has been such a struggle all my life, it was killing me.

I am done with all that now, the low fat, the weighing food, the counting points, done, over, I will not do it ever again. Before I happened upon this plan I have been living a no grain/low carb/no sugar lifestyle I have been trying to stay off medication for my blood sugar, blood pressure and cholesterol and it was working but still my body hadn't gotten any smaller.

On fast5 everything is under control and I am unbelievably smaller. than I have ever been ever. No uncontrolled hunger, no headaches or cravings. Blood sugar, blood pressure, and cholesterol all normal. It is so easy and normal feeling to me. The fasting time feels short to me because of the sleep time. I eat what I want sticking to no grain/lowcarb/ no sugar in my eating window it feels so good and no overeating it is hard for me to believe. I am so happy!

Only people who feel they need to lose weight (or get healthy, which includes losing weight 99% of the time) read diet books. If someone has read multiple diet books and has still not found a diet that they can stay on it's because they simply haven't found a diet that they can stay on yet.

There are certain diets that EVERYONE knows about: Low fat, counting calories, low carb, organic, raw food, vegetarian, just eat healthy in moderation, etc.

IF any of those diets work for you then you would already be on them. I personally don't know anyone who is on any of those diets although I know many people who have tried all of them multiple times including many that aren't on that list.

Anyone can do any diet for a set period of time but not everyone can stay on them. Why? It's because they are a hassle and they don't make you feel satisfied. Anyone can deal with hassle and lack of satisfaction for a period of time but eventually your hunger will win.

In order for any diet to be sucessful it must not be a hassle and it must make you feel satisfied. If it can't do both of those things, then why even bother? If a diet will only work if you cut out refined carbohydrates then why bother with it? You won't stay on it. Why? Because we live in the real world, not the world of ideas. Food tastes good. Food tastes great. You can't avoid temptation. You can't even drive to work without passing 17 fast food restaraunts. Those golden arches are hypnotic as is the smell that enters your car as you drive by. Whatever you tell yourself you can't have is exactly what you will crave 24/7 no matter how many positive affirmations you repeat. Whatever you tell yourself you can't have is what you will crave 24/7 no matter how many subliminal audio tapes you listen to. Whatever you tell yourself you can't have is exactly what you will crave 24/7 no matter how much guilt or shame you feel. That's reality.

If you could avoid any food type or limit amounts over a long enough period of time to achieve your ideal body weight and bodyfat % then you would have done it already. You have to admit that you have to find another way to do it. There's nothing wrong with that. It is reality. How can there be anything wrong with reality as it is? The only thing wrong is clinging to ideas that don't work for you. Just let ideas that don't help you fall away and instead turn toward reality.

I lost 40 lbs last year (in case any of you remember, I started posting here last april) on Fast-5 because the diet was realistic. The diet didn't require that I live in a bubble and avoid every grain of sugar I came across. I love burgers, pizza, chinese food, cocacola and white bread. No food is evil. Food is neutral. I also love blueberries, eggs, nuts, steak, raw red peppers, chicken, fish, bananas, oranges and even asparagus. No food is good. Food is neutral.

Different people have different likes and dislikes and one pathway will not be appropriate for everyone, Fast-5 included. My wife lost weight by just eating healthy food, avoiding unhealthy food and walking 3 times a week. I dislike that. I like fasting for most of the day and indulging for 1-2 meals at the end of the day with a combination of both healthy and "pleasure" food and lifting weights 3 times a week. She dislikes that. That's reality. I can't believe it when I see her eat a chicken sandwich at noon and then say she's full. She can't believe it when I don't eat anything all day long and then eat 3 plates of food. We both have different beliefs. We both have different likes and dislikes. I could never be like her and she could never be like me and that's just reality.

No one loves food more than me. No one loves to eat more than me. If I can lose weight, anyone can. I had every disadvantage that it was possible to have when I started: I was "husky" my whole life, I had a "sweet-tooth" , I had an addictive personality, I ate out of depression, boredom or just to be social, I had a 20 year track record of dietary failure, a foot problem that prevented most exercise programs, I can't keep track of where I put my keys let along keep track of how many calories I've eaten in a day, no time for preparing healthy food or to exercise, no money for healthy food, family members telling me it's "just in my genes", I work in a place where everyday people are bringing in cheese balls, donuts and brownies, my family wants to eat out all the time because of my wonderful cooking skills :), all my hobbies revolve around me being in front of the computer or TV screen, I hate sports unless it's the one where you're rolling a ball at some pins or sitting on a motorbike... I could go on and on. If it could have been stacked against me, it was. If I can do it, anyone can. The only thing I did different this past year was I did Fast-5 and the weight came off slowly. Since it was hassle free and I always felt satisfied, I was always happy. Since I was happy I stayed on it. That's reality.
