Hi Karen,
 
My understanding is that on the fasting part of fast5 it should be only 0 calorie beverages. Slowly working up to the full 19 hour fast is best if you are having a hard time. My understanding is that it is best to have a period of no calorie intake at all.

Wow.  I thought I read that an average lemon could give 1 bsp of juice, so I have used that much per 8-10 oz of water…

 

It'd be great to know 1 tsp in a whole quart would be 'enough'!!

Lemon juice should only be a teaspoon per quart of water. The lemon juice may be affecting your blood sugar, making it spike up then drop. Lemon juice in large amounts does have calories and carbs. Try adding a green tea bag to a quart of iced water. I keep adding water to mine all day.
