[fast5] Re: Eating Window Adjustment

There's no particular benefit to being hungry, since your body's fuel demands are going to be the same with or without it. It may serve as a reminder that during that time, your body is running on stored fuel, but that's about it. Tweaking your schedule such that the hour before break-fast falls during a time when you're physically active and distracted may be helpful, but that's not always possible.

Because the break-fast time quickly becomes a part of circadian rhythm, you're likely to feel it a while before your scheduled break-fast no matter when your break-fast time is. That suggests that having a highly variable break-fast time might help, say 3 pm on even days and 5 pm on odd days, but it's been my experience that hunger starts being noticeable about 23.5 hours after I last broke my fast, no matter when I broke the fast. For example, I broke my fast in the morning on Christmas day, and the 26th, I was hungry right at the time I'd broken my fast, as if my body punched a time clock and said "you found food yesterday at this time. Where is it today?"

If adjusting your window to 4-9 doesn't help, talking to yourself may. When the hungries start, try announcing to your body mentally but emphatically that "It's not break-fast time yet, you'll get fed when it's time, now leave me alone!" This means one part of your brain is talking to another, more primitive part, and such communication works for some and not for others.

Best wishes for your success,

Bert

Since I like dinner with the kids and a snack in the evening the 5-10pm window seemed like a good place to start. My question was really about whether or not there is a benefit to being hungry. I was wondering if that legitimate feeling of hunger means that my body is digging into fat stores to keep the lights on. If so, it isn't the worst feeling in the world. I'm going to switch to 4-9pm and see what happens. As far as food choices, I'm a Weston A Price and Sally Fallon fan from way back. I eat lots of saturated fats and agree that it is, for me, a very healthy eating plan. I truly think coconut is a miracle food and incorporate it as often as I can. I do eat some good hearty whole grain bread, usually with nuts in it and butter and occasionally a dessert of some kind. I bake a lot with almond meal instead of flour. I also concede that there are a lot of ways to do things right. I know if I cut the bread out it may help to lose weight faster but after the last round of my question and the groups answers I've decided to quit worrying about it at all. I like how I feel and am convinced this is good for my health so I'm switching to weekly weigh-ins from daily and a pound a week will be just fine with me. After a few weeks go by I'll keep you guys posted.
