Early rapid weight loss isn't unusual, particularly for men, and many people see a rate greater than a pound per week. Men tend to be faster, which isn't surprising given that women's bodies have to maintain a reserve for two, not just one, even when they're not currently pregnant. It's been my practice from the start to be modest with hopes and expectations. Anything beyond that is great -- icing on the cake. You won't see a disclaimer in fine print that says "results not typical."
The one pound per week is pretty typical for the long term -- 2, 3, 4 months and so on when even those who lost quickly at first have a pause as his/her body decides whether it's okay to let go another parcel of fat. Increasing exercise and low-carb diets can help accelerate the loss, too, beyond a pound per week.
A pound-per-week doesn't isn't the minimum loss, either. A few folks haven't seen that rate of loss despite very good efforts, but for most folks, over a month or two, it's typical.
There's a physical limit on how much fat you can lose per week. Without exercise, an adult male will burn about 2000 calories (kcal) per day, depending on size, activity and so on. That equates to about 4 pounds per week of fat loss (plus storage-associated water) if he eats nothing at all. So, diets claiming a more rapid rate should be viewed with extreme skepticism.
So enjoy the rapid weight loss. You may see more of it, and you may not. If you pay attention to your body's cues on what to eat and how much, things should go smoothly.
Best wishes,

However, I did not expect to lose much of anything for a week or two, then lose at a rate of about a pound a week. I feel sure that things will probably level off very soon, and my weight loss will be near the 1 lb. per week average.
