I've only been doing this for about a month, but I've found I do best if I break my fast with a salad, or fresh cut veggies. I then add a protein, so maybe some cheese or chicken breast or whatever. I try very hard not to break my fast with bread or other starchy carbs. I was doing breaking my fast with lots of starchy carbs at first and found myself REALLY overeating in my window, and like others have said, having cravings and hunger pains throughout the next day as well. I still treat myself to carbs, but not until I've already filled my belly with more nutritious options. I find I don't really overeat in my window at all anymore. I think my brain is getting used to this WOE and realizes that I'll eat again in a day or so, I'm not starving and I don't need to "compensate for the upcoming drought" so to speak :)
Many people on this forum appear to be low or no carb. I'm trying to cut down, but will likely never be no or low carb. I don't feel well eating that way and just REALLY don't like meat all that much. I was a vegetarian for 20 odd years and although I do eat meat now, what and how much I eat are very limited. I realize there are other types of proteins but meat is the easiest and often cheapest source. But I am trying to cut down.
Anyway, my 2 cents. Good luck!
