[fast5] Re: Does it matter WHEN you exercise?

I wake up in the morning and ride my bicycle 15 miles to work. Sometimes when I get in (once or twice a week) I'll do pushups, pullups, and handstands. After that I eat nothing, but I do drink green tea all day. At lunchtime I'll go out and walk around the city for an hour, followed by more water and tea. Then at the end of the day I'll ride home another 15 miles. I gather a list of what I need to get from the grocery store and bike up to the store to get ingredients for dinner and come home and cook dinner for the family.

This is all done fasted.

I firmly believe that unless you are a top level competitive athlete it doesn't matter when you exercise or when you eat. Your body can handle it. What's important is that you exercise in a way that you love, and that you eat in a way that suits your schedule and your metabolism. It has to be for life.

I've experimented with post-workout snacks, pre-workout snacks, black coffee before workouts, snack after my second daily ride followed by a meal at some undisclosed time later within my window. It all comes down to getting your daily micro and macronutrient requirements met sometime within 24 hours of your next workout. Your body doesn't care as long as it gets fed *at some point*. It will adapt to your schedule. It's like a good dog waiting at the window for you to come home. :) Your body will wait patiently for you to feed it. Sometimes it will jump up on your leg and beg for food, but you know better and pat it on it's head and tell it to go lay down... and it will. ;)
