Re: [fast5] What do you do when you're sick?

I'm not a doctor either, but I'd do whatever your body is telling you. I drink lots of hot liquids when my throat is sore. I don't normally have sugar or honey in my tea though, so it's not an issue for fasting. I wouldn't think there are enough calories in cough drops though, to have a horrible effect on fasting. Hot chicken broth is low in calories and not a high-glycemic food, and it helps you feel better too. The cold is going to send you for a loop no matter what.

This last cold I did two things different, which, amazingly, seemed to have worked very well. One is, I put a heating pad over my sinus/nose area. I got the idea from a doctor who prescribed hot washcloths for staph infections. Apparently staph is quite sensitive to small changes in temperature. Viruses are said to be the same, which is why your body creates a fever to get rid of them. Anyway, your nasal area is normally pretty cool, which they like, and cold viruses do much of their replicating in the nasal tissues. So a heating pad or hot water bottle, 3x a day for 15 minutes, tends to kill them off ... or at least that is my theory. Animals tend to go lie out in the sun, which warms the tissues nicely and kills germs too, but they have enough fur they don't get sunburned.

I also had Olive Leaf tea (a few drops of olive leaf extract in some hot water) three times a day. And I slept a lot.

I don't know if it was the Olive Leaf or the hot pad, but the cold went away in record  time, and it's the first time EVER for me that I didn't get a sinus infection afterward.  Those "hanging on" coughs after a cold are said to be sinus infections, which can stick around for 6 weeks or so in some people.

I'm battling a pretty nasty cold right now and due to this am having difficulties fasting and am honestly dying for a throat drop as my throat is on fire.

What are the rules regarding when you are ill?  Just do what your body is telling you?  Have the throat drop and eat if I'm hungry?  Or should I try to persevere and stick to my normal eating times?

Normally I'm not as hungry when I'm sick, and that's still the case, but I feel like such a space cadet and I don't think the fasting is helping my cause.

Any insight?
