To break my fast without getting cravings, my best choices are cheese or meat. Even a piece of cheese while heating up leftovers seems to work. I don't eat much in the way of fruits and vegetables (never liked them), so I've not tried that.
Breaking my fast with something sweet is the worst case. It makes me just eat a lot of everything through my whole window (and sometimes beyond).
If I eat too much of anything with sugar I'm doomed for that day and the next. I will crave lots of food and/or lots more sweets. I can't eat any candy or I will eat lots of it. Chocolate really gets me going into a cycle of wanting anything sweet.
