Re: [fast5] Chewing Gum/Mints?

Here is my take. I looked at Sobie Life waters this past weekend because my husband wanted to drink something besides water on the fasting period. Sobie has ERYTHRITOL which is a natural sugar alcohol which I believe is where the carbs come from. There are also herbal extracts in it which could add some carbs. I don't think that the vitamins add carbs since the bottle of complete vitamins I have has 0 carbs listed. At our store they only had the 20 ounce bottles so there are 2.5 servings in the bottle so you have to multiply the 6 grams of carbs by 2.5 if you drink the whole bottle- so adding it up that would be 15 carbs. IMO that would be too much. Sugar alcohols are not without their side effects...having allot can cause gastric upset such as gas and diarrhea. "They" claim that sugar alcohols do not affect insulin or blood sugars. But even splenda keeps me from loosing weight because of its sweetness and it doesnt even have carbs.

I do use a breath mint if I have to be out an near people. They have not held back my weightloss and I use one that has less than one gram of carbs (Icebreakers brand). They do have 2 calories but so does herbal tea. Gum and mints may trigger your limbic hunger so you will have to see how it works for you.

Just my 2cents.

Have any of you chewed sugar free gum or mints during your fast? I typically don't, and will usually have a piece before I break my fast but am wondering if you've still had success with the plan and chewed gum?

Also I bought these calorie free Sobe Lifewaters the other day and was about to enjoy one when I saw that although they are calorie free and sugar free, they still contain carbohydrates. 6g to be exact. I suspect this is due to the fact that most of those types of drinks contain vitamins. Is this okay to have while fasting? I would assume not as it contains some sort of nutritional value but just thought I'd check.

Thank you!
