Re: [fast5] Mono-Meals? In desperate need of advice, Please!

I do know all this :). It was VERY unhealthy for me, but I wasn’t using everything available either. I guess I wouldn't’ say its impossible for someone to be healthy doing it (and it certainly beats the SAD), but I would say that many people have a hard time doing it in a way that IS healthy, maybe I should leave it at that. Personally, I don’t believe there fully IS a healthy way, but I’m not trying to get into an argument :).

Let’s just say I firmly and fully embraced it while I was doing it(4 plus months).....I wanted to believe it was healthy. I don’t think it ever could be for me. Not the ticket to ultimate longevity for me. I’ve learned a whole lot since then.

But a raw diet that was ONLY vegan? It would be difficult to pull off without some rather well-made processed food I think?  To get enough raw fruits/vegies to sustain a human being requires lots of bulk and chewing, esp. if one is eating in a 5-hour window. Some foods, like avocados, might make it easier. Most of the other foods I can think of that would be good high-caloric vegan foods also require processing ... like nuts and legumes, which require at least soaking and usually cooking to detox them. (Some beans I think are ok after they are sprouted, and green edmame are ok, but others can make you really sick: I'm guessing the raw food community has figured out how to make some of these things work?).

Yes they're loads of info out there. Juicing and blending smoothies are used a lot which gives concentrated nutrients for small volume. Most nuts should be soaked to release the enzyme inhibitors. Sprouted seeds are fantastically nutritious. My favourites are lentils, alfalfa & clover but there's loads of others as well. Fermenting veggies also works really well. It's amazing, if the food is 'live' the body uses so much less energy to get the nutrients out of it, that you really don't need to concentrate on high calorie food.  Those who are worried about protein should read The China Study, it's one of the most comprehensive studies ever.

Man raw vegans only eat two meals a day which fits perfectly with fast 5. Personally I prefer to call myself high-raw and high-vegan as I've seen too many people get caught up in endless arguments about whether some minute ingredient is 'really raw".

If you google it there's been a lot of raw vegan athletes. someone in another post said they didn't think you'd be able to do it for long, well dr. Ann Wigmore was 84 when she was killed trying to save her house from a fire. There was that 96 year old guy who died in a surfing accident (yep - surfing at 96 :-) and You tube has loads of interviews with raw vegans in their 90s and even 100s so I'm not sure how much longer you could be doing it for :-)
