Hi all. My name is Jennifer (but I have lots of nicknames so as long as it is polite I answer). I joined the fast 5 website and left a message in the forum with my story, but when I saw there was a yahoo group I just had to join up to keep up on fast 5.
This is rather long as I am going to tell my story ( and I already see that many of you have the same issues I do ). Well here goes:
I have battled with my weight since I hit puberty. I eat pretty healthy since I moved out of my Mom's house (about 20 years now) but the weight just kept going up and up. I don't really overeat with portions unless there is a special event (a gathering where food is a part of the event) but even then I don't eat a lot of food. I am one of those people that is never hungry.
Doctors, nutritionists, dietitians, etc have all said I don't eat enough to lose weight. That my not eating is slowing my metabolism. Well I am not hungry. That is partly because I am so busy and the other part because I just always feel full anyway, so if I eat, I get sick to my stomach.
The other part is that "they" tell me I don't get enough exercise...um... somehow I don't think that is the issue either. Let me give you a rundown of my week:
Mon, Wed, Fri:
4am - walk, feed dog, get ready for work
5:45am - get bus to NYC.
7:15am - walk 2 miles to job
8am - work until 4pm
12-1pm -- lunch but I never get to eat. Sometimes get to take a walk.
4:40pm -- take bus back home
6:30-7:30pm (depends on if good day or not for traveling) - get home, walk, feed dog, make dinner. (Mon, Wed cook for Tue & Thur)
8:30pm Eat dinner
10pm Walk dog
11pm Get stuff ready for next day (Mon, Wed)
12am - go to sleep.
Tue, Thur
Repeat Mon, Wed, Fri except:
8pm - go to gym and work out with Trainer (this is why I cook on Mon, Wed for Tue, Thurs)
11pm -- have dinner that was made day before.
1am -- go to sleep
Saturday
6am - get up to feed and walk dog,
8am - go do errands that could not be done Mon - Fri. i.e. shopping, etc
11:30am - get home to walk dog
12-12:30pm - arrive to visit Mom at nursing home
3pm - get home to start prepping food for the week to make cooking easier. Make the longer cooking stuff like whole grain pasta from scratch, stews, soups, anything that has to cook all day or takes a lot of work
5pm - feed dog, walk dog, do work around house, write bills, etc.
7pm - have dinner
9pm - do laundry, catch up on DVR recordings, call friends (maybe go out on date, other odd items) :)
11pm -- take dog for walk and then go to bed.
Sunday
6am - get up to feed and walk dog
7am - 5pm -- volunteer at local "no-kill" animal shelter
6pm - get home, make dinner, walk and feed dog
7:30pm - eat dinner, prep for return to work Monday.
Ok, I know all that is really TMI, but it is an outline which does change based on other events that happen, like when I am on-call for work (that is 24/7 once every 5th week). It also shows that I am pretty much doing the fast-5 plan just because my schedule requires it.
When I first heard of fast-5 and then read the e-book, I couldn't believe I was already doing it, but not with as tight a structure for the 5 hour eating window. On march 31/april 1 I started structuring my schedule so that I would eat between 6:30pm and 11:30pm and only drink 0 calorie liquids the rest of the time. Since I did that, I have lost 10 lbs and several pants sizes.
Fast 5 is great. It appears to work well for me. I was over 250 lbs 2 years ago and I am currently down to 210-220 (somewhere in there, my next fitness profile is on April 24). I am only 5'3" so I am considered obese even though my body fat is under 23%. I really hope that fast 5 will help me hit my goal of 170 by December. I think it is reasonable and possible, if my body continues to cooperate.
Thanks for reading. Comments welcome.
