I went for tea in Victoria BC, which was nice. I'd love to go again someday: maybe they'll have a Fat Rascal without the gluten! We do have a nice tea shoppe in town though and I have some nice loose teas too.

Well, tea caddies are really for tea leaves, not bags - so they have to be airtight to keep the tea fresh. Often when you buy quality loose-leaf tea here it comes in a decorative metal box, which you can then refill and reuse, or there are custom-made caddies, especially china ones. Of course, if you want choice of tea things, come to Britain. We have a huge traditional speciality china store where I live (York) which must keep literally millions in bone china in stock, much of it tea and dinner services. And of course there are the traditional tea-rooms - if you've never had Yorkshire tea and a Fat Rascal in Betty's Tea-Rooms in York, you haven't lived!

I'm sure they exist. One of my favorite shows as a kid was a "20 questions" kind of game, and "Is it bigger than a breadbox" was one of the favorite questions. However, when I did eat bread (which was years and years ago) I didn't keep it in a breadbox: I kept it in the fridge. Bread was never a favorite of mine and it turns out it makes me very ill, so my favorite starch was (and is) corn tortillas. I've seen breadboxes for sale in catalogs though.
We do have a cookie jar though, though it's just a plastic thing with a sealable top these days. And I have a little jar for my tea bags. I didn't know there were special jars for that? Sounds like a very British thing! On Thu, Apr 22, 2010 at 5:58 AM, David Nyman <david@davidnyman.com> wrote:
Really, don't they have breadboxes where you live, Heather? There used to be one in every kitchen here in Britain - still is in many, including mine: just a container with the word "bread" written on the outside, to keep bread in! We have cookie jars too, but they're usually labelled "biscuits". And of course tea caddies.
