[fast5] 1 Week Vacation from Fast-5 : Long Post

Hello all! Decided to do a one week experiment by going off F5 and seeing the results and how I feel.

A little backround: found out about F5 last April and did it till August when I started doing various intermittent fasting styles for a few months but in the end decided that F5 was the most convenient and more fun.

A couple months ago I started experimenting with 1 "cheat day" per week and sometimes even did 2 of them with no weight rebound but I didn't feel as good on those days (and the day after) so I ditched the cheat days and decided instead to just eat what I craved on the days I craved them toward the end of the 5 hour window and I think that's best in the longrun.

Just for the heck of it, last week I decided to do a traditional bodybuilding diet- you know the kind where you eat lean proteins, complex (natural, slow releasing) carbs, and fresh fruits and vegetables split up into 5 meals and count calories, yada yada yada. I just wanted a vacation from fasting. I ate a decent sized meal every 4 hours or so and I felt ok for the first 2 days and even started to doubt my F5 Lifestyle because I honestly did have fun going out to brunch with the family. On the third day I woke up and was still tired even though I slept my normal amount of time. I was insanely hungry and had a protein shake, egg whites and oatmeal. Then I went for a walk and was hungry after 1.5 hours but I held off another hour before I had a grilled chicken salad with balsamic vinegar dressing and almonds and a couple hours later I was so hungry I was dying for a burger and a coke, which I haven't craved for months, and I had heartburn even though I was eating an "awsome" diet that's in every bodybuilding book. So I went through the rest of the day and said that the next day I'd eat even cleaner, my body just isn't used to food early in the day yet. The next day I decided to do low carb to control my cravings. I ate egg whites and chicken a few times and a dry salad and some fruit for the first 3 meals and I just feel terrible- lightheaded, groggy, hungry no matter what I eat, and it's only day 4 of my "vacation." So the next 3 days I just eat breakfast, lunch and dinner with my wife and I just eat what she ate and didn't count nothing but I just made sure I drank plenty of water between meals. I just couldn't wait for this week to be over. Yesterday was Sunday and I felt like dying. I felt like I had the flu yesterday and after I ate just 1 meal ate noon I was dead the rest of the day. I was tired, miserable, I was snapping at the dog, I was irritated at everyone, I just couldn't believe that food could do this to a person. I didn't eat anything after 4pm because my stomache was doing flips and I knew I would get sick.

At midnight last night I finally started to feel ok and this morning I woke up feeling a little better and I'm finally starting to get my energy back that I was used to having.

I don't know why I'm even posting this because all of you here already know that this diet works and eating multiple times per day is just overload on your body, but maybe if there's someone out there that's on the fence about it or having a slow start, maybe they'll realize that once you start fasting daily, you'll feel so good you won't want to stop. I don't think that F5 is a magic bullet weight loss system because it's certainly possible to eat so much in 5 hours that you don't lose weight but you won't WANT to eat like that most of the time. We all have our days where we're abnormally more hungry but that's just now and then, not daily like before, especially if you've been overweight for most of your life.

One more thing, I've said it before here that post workout meals are not necessary since it takes HOURS for the food to be digested and absorbed, last week reinforced that idea to me. For most of last year I would work out at 11am and not eat anything until 7pm and I felt fine. Last week when I would eat right after I worked out, that "high" you get from working out... it was totally wiped out once I started eating. I don't know who invented eating after you work out but I think he doesn't know much about digestion or hormones. We only "grow" when GH is up, which happens when you fast and when you sleep. It goes DOWN when you eat because insulin goes up. Insulin is responsible for nutrient absorption, without it we would die. But when we eat, our body's priority is absorbing nutrients- not breaking down and burning fat for energy and not building new tissue. That happens primarily at night when we sleep and also when we are in a fasted state. It's a cycle, like everything in nature and I think diets that follow this cycle are the only ones that work.

Take care! I'll get off my soapbox and go do some yoga :)
