Re: [fast5] Plant based diet

True, but animals that can live just off fruits and vegies can
generally synthesize B12. And often can digest cellulose,
and have teeth that are a lot better at chewing. And
don't have such a requirement for amino acids.

We are pretty much set to be omnivores. The closest
digestive tract to ours belongs to pigs.

My own belief though is that we are designed for a sea-based diet,
hence our need for Omega 3's, iodine, craving for salt,
and propensity to over-store copper and iron. Add some
fish to your proposed plan and it would seem pretty
ideal to me ... at least it's pretty close to what I eat. I don't
eat a huge amount of fish/poultry/beef, and I try to skew
towards fish. But we eat huge amounts of vegies and
fruit, which form the basis for the meal. I feel a lot better
that way.

I think eating fruit, vegies, greens as a basis for a diet
is a lot better than the grains that form the basis for most
modern diets. More good fiber, vitamins, easier on your gut
blood sugar, and immune system. Beans alone though, wouldn't
make a complete set of amino acids, I think.

Some people though have tried to combine Fast-5 with other
plans and just found they got too hungry. The idea on Fast-5
is to mainly follow your appetite: not to work according to some
fixed, esp. low-calorie diets. Low amounts of protein tend
to leave people hungry too: there is some evidence that humans
need a rather fixed amount of protein per day. And on this
list, people have observed that the day after not eating enough
protein, they have more hunger.

But anyway, it's all an experiment. Try it out, see what works.
