That is my situation, too, Paul...
I suppose I not unhealthy while I ate a mostly vegetarian diet earlier this
year, but I lost muscle tone, which I did NOT like (and my tummy hurt all
the time!).
So I have chosen to increase my protein intake. I looked and looked for
weight-training vegetarians to see how they get 'enough' protein, and it
seems all of them use some form of powder.
I'd much rather eat 'real' meat than constant powders, so, for now, I'm
eating 4 meals (all day, on lifting days), and using my whey powder for one
of those meals, with meat or eggs or dairy the other meals.
On my big fast day yesterday, I had one chicken breast and one scoop of whey
(but, hey! My lifts this morning were incredible!!!)

Personally i'd like to eat as natural and unprocessed as possible but can we
get the "optimum nutrition" from eating buckets of fruits & veggies, beans,
greens & whole grains?
that's why i still eat the powders and analogs...
