She was a passionate vegan for twenty years. She believed it was the way toward a better world. It destroyed her health. But because it was so deeply a part of her identity and beliefs she could not see or accept what was happening to her until her body was damaged beyond repair. She looks at vegetarianism from a health, a moral and a political point of view. Some of her politics is quite extreme and I wish she had left them out and saved them for another book. But the nutritional and ecological discussions are very thorough and should give anybody with an open mind a lot of food for thought and further exploration.
Basically though the main idea is that all life depends upon death. It is a circle. Our own personal health and the health of our planet depend upon such understanding. Nice as it would be to think that by simply not eating animal products we could save ourselves and the planet, it is just not that simple.
The are some reviews on Amazon that might give you a better idea.
