[fast5] Re: protein intake

Thanks Andy
I've been trying to do F5 for a few months now and probobly only successfully doing it for a few weeks.
I can't do the 6 meal a day thing because my stomach has some issues and can't digest that quickly. F5 was a glorious discovery that has giving my poor tummy a long needed break.
I am only eating 2 meals a day and like I mentioned at the start was making me wonder about getting all that protein in but thank you for helping me out. I won't freak out about getting that "specific number" of protein each day :-)

I was a vegetarian for a year and I actually gained muscle eating as less as 50 grams a day of vegetable protein (nuts and what's in grains and vegetables). I've also done bodybuilding phases where I ate over 250 grams a day and honestly I don't really think it helped much to build muscle. I currently eat between 80 and 120 grams a day and that's just what I calculate at the end of the day, I don't shoot for it as a goal.

That sounds about right to me because even if you're on F5 because a portion of protein is around 20 grams so times that by six and you got my previous number of 120. That's really easy to achieve if you eat steak, chicken, fish, eggs and cheese everyday (which I do) and sometimes I drink a protein shake too because it fills you up for a while.

The next step is seeing through the lie of having to eat a certain amount of protein per day. The only the idea has become popular is because on the low fat diet you could MAKE your diet low fat by replacing fat calories with protein calories and the same for the low carb diet. Protein was just what was left over to eat and then people just assumed it was "right" to UP those calories but it really has no benefit to try to do it unaturally. If you overeat on protein you just waste it anyway. For what it's worth I think it's better to overeat on carbs or fat because because at least it makes you feel better psychologically and the next day's lifting is alot better, you feel more energetic. More protein doesn't help with that.

That's a no-brainer if you think about it but with F5 we're more concerned with the long term eating patterns that make us happy as normal people and we're less concerned with the fad or temporary "quick weight loss techniques" that waste so many peoples' time and eventually backfire.
