[fast5] Re: Fast5 in the UK

I'm in the UK as well. Like you, I found about this by browsing on the web. I read an article about the positive effects of CR and IF on lab mice and from there went to check it out on wikipedia, which mentioned Fast-5, when I saw that it was a non profit book and nobody was trying to sell me supplements, I downloaded it and here I am.

It's ironic that the banner ad at the top while I'm writing this is an ad for cereal asking if I skipped breakfast!
Anyway, I've been doing this for 3.5 weeks and lost 8 pounds (I think 5 were water weight, since they were the +/-5 pounds range within which I'd normally gain/lose and I started at the top of the range).

I wouldn't call this regime EASY, I find that it requires self-discipline, but it's feasible and it's getting easier.

Positive effects so far:
- Losing weight; I've also lost an inch around my waist.
- more energy (I can measure that pretty accurately, since I have to cycle uphill every day when I get home from work)
- I noticed a definite improvement in how my skin looks; I have rosacea and my skin more often than not would look red and inflamed, now it looks much better. Yesterday I worked out pretty hard at the gym, which is one of the things that would invariably trigger redness for hours or even days, and I was fine afterwards, I was a bit red for a few minutes and after that my skin was clear.
- My rest heart rate has gone down to around 55 from 65 that it was before. This could be a combined effect of exercise though (I worked out before as well, but now I am doing it more).

No effect so far on:
- Blood pressure. I suffer from slightly high BP and am on medication for it (on a very low dosage) and I thought that I'd see an immediate improvement but that's not been the case. Maybe it takes longer and a more dramatic weight loss before I start seeing results in this area.

Possible negative effects:
I put these down as possible because I have no idea if they are related to this diet or not.
- Tinnitus. I've had tinnitus for three weeks and I don't understand why. Never suffered from it before. I went to see the doctor and it doesn't look like I have a problem with my ears. It's really annoying and it's almost constant. Could be just a coincidence, I really can't imagine how it could be related.
- Lighter sleep. Normally I crash and sleep until the alarm goes off, now on occasion I wake up and I don't know what woke me up. I go back to sleep quite quickly but still, it's weird.
- I feel that I can't focus too well in the afternoon (at work) before I break fast at five. It's odd because I am actually hungrier in the morning, but also more focused. On the upside, though, I don't get sleepy around 3pm as I used to when I had lunch.

I have another 70 pounds to lose, but at last I can see an achievable way through to being slim again (I haven't been for at least 25 years).

I have virtually no hunger at all until my window opens at 5pm and then I find myself preferring all the healthy foods that I used to ignore. How can something so effective be completely free, when so many millions are being poured into the diet industry? Incredible.
