If I get hungry, personally what works for me is to drink about half a glass of water and then find something else to concentrate on instead. I find that If I focus on my hunger (there and then) I'm more tempted to eat.. thus If I occupy myself with something else. I'm no longer hungry.
If anything, it's about self-control and discipline.
