Anything with 5 calories or less is "legal". As a practical matter, it
depends how your body reacts to it though. If it makes you hungrier
later, you should avoid it. Some foods have an effect on insulin that
causes a "rebound", even though they don't have calories per se. I
don't know about licorice: I don't think it's been mentioned.
