That is most surely the case. Commercial poultry are bred for only one purpose: to grow fast. Flavor and every health parameter have been abandoned. The antibiotics also help with the growth rate. It is not fully understood why. And of course they live in a disease incubator and are under enormous stress so they would die long before they were at full growth with out them.
