Personally, I think nobody should ever eat sugar. But that is only a crazy pipedream will probably never happen. :)
Dr Herring could probably elaborate on this better, but most people who have a weight problem are usually suffering with some degree of insulin resistance. Dr Bert and others in his field have said in the past that intermittent fasting and calorie restriction can make insulin receptors more sensitive to insulin. So over time, people should be able to eat more like they did when they were younger. If folks need to lose weight, they certainly shouldn't use sugar at all. But insulin resistance isn't the only health problem with eating sugar. Some studies indicate that sugar may shorten lifespan. More details are here: http://www.drmirkin.com/public/ezine111509.html. Karen be sure to at least read the last sentence of the first section. Dr Mirkin says that a lack of Vitamin D3 causes high blood sugar levels and you should try to maintain vitamin D3 at at least 75nmol/L. I think also this article should get your head spinning a bit as well: http://www.drmirkin.com/diabetes/D222.html .
