Re: [fast5] Re: Come on people, where are you?

Thanks! That was me. I've done it a couple of times.... good results. Don't know if it exactly made me feel bullet-proof :-) but I think it helped ease any hunger pangs until my window opened. And it tasted a whole lot better than I expected it to.

I had tried just adding a spoonful to my coffee (normal, with milk, pre-Fast-5) and didn't think much of it. But whisking it made it gooood. The only way to go, in my book.

I still feel a bit nervous about all the calories. Who knows? I think a few "road tests" are in order. LOL.

I am loving the part where I eat what I want during the window. I am good a delayed gratification, and I can manage to wait for things I really want to eat! Sometimes I eat too much - wanting cookies AND dinner, AND a snack. Not hungry, just wanting the mouth-feel and the different tastes.

Anyway- going good. I really like this way of eating and I am sticking with it

In addition to the open group that Brenda mentioned, there is now a closed group for Fast-5ers on Facebook too:

https://www.facebook.com/groups/thefast5dietandlifestyle/

The difference is that your posts to the closed group are private and cannot be seen by your Facebook friends.

i think when you have been a fast fiver for a while you do start thinking about what you are eating. the more i find out what is in our food the more i don't want to eat that crap. i think a lot of us decide that if we are eating less we want to eat better. what is "better" is different for each of us.

There was quite a bit of commentary on this list until about a year ago or so when someone got snippy and insulted a huge swath of members. That sort of quashed most conversation here. There are still a few of us here, but the Facebook group is quite lively these days. Do you have any specific questions?

Re: [fast5] Come on people, where are you?

Neither do I. I have a simple tracfone.
Day 7 my weight is 2.6 pounds down. Now at first I was disappointed. But all week was a carbfest! Spaghetti, pumpkin pie, tacos, bacon and eggs, potato soup. High fiber Pumpkin bread. Only vegetables were some raw broccoli one day, a salad another and V8 juice. No exercise either. I do feel better. No depression and racing thoughts and anxiety.

I haven't quite figured it out myself either, but pretty much all the groups I've been in over the last decade, have gotten quieter and quieter. I kind of think people have moved into "social media" and away from email. The pundits are saying about the same thing. It makes me sad ... I really do not like the "social media" thing at all.

We are pretty well aligned! I have decided on 4:30 - 9:30 every day -- I just broke my fast with a yummy meal and a yummy milky coffee.

I do believe you will get to your ideal weight in 2013! It's great that you recognize that you used to eat like this naturally in your younger days. I don't remember quite so precisely, but I can really feel my body appreciating what I've been doing for the last week. *I* will get to my ideal weight in 2014 I reckon!

Linda, I am so glad that you are glad, and so excited that you are excited!! Wonderful to have a buddy with this. I hope Kathy and Carrie join us. But at least we have got each other in this.

In NZ we have a small chocolate bar called "Whittakers Peanut Slab" -- it's about 2 oz, and its really yummy chocolate with lots of peanuts in it. I just realised today that I can have a peanut slab if/when I want. I always really liked them but haven't had one for years. hahaha!! Yay! Ain't life grand.

And hey. I have already noticed that my groceries are lasting longer, my shopping is lighter (and more fun), and my kitchen bin is taking longer to fill up than it used to! And when I do the dishes, they STAY done for a much longer time!

Thanks for the welcome Sam. To hear you LOVE FF after a year on plan says such a lot.

Are you on the Facebook Group? I just joined ... scrolled right to the bottom and am going to work my way up reading all the posts since mid-November. So good.

Are you at goal yet?

I still have a lot to lose. However I have downloaded the e-book (have almost finished reading it) and am really keen to stick with this until I reach goal!

I have read the last few months messages here, and you lot look like a great crowd of buddies! I'll write again after I've seen some results :-)

Re: [fast5] Re: Intro from new member

Hi Rick! FOUR YEARS! Wow that is a real boost, reading that. I have a lot to lose; in fact I need to halve my weight even after the 20kg I already lost. But this seems like the real way to do it. I have somehow transformed the very way I look at food ... I have some potato chips on my shelf and a few beers in my fridge ... they have been there for days and I am not driven to indulge and they don't make me feel guilty when I see them! I love it.

I will look at the FB group. Thanks for the heads up about that! And the welcome.

Brenda

[fast5] Re: how much weight loss?

Thanks. I am not a calorie counter- not my thing at all. I do strive to break my fast with an apple. Sometimes followed by some almond butter. That is at 2, I generally have a beer or a glass of wine while making dinner and have dinner at 6 ish. I sometimes have dessert. But, always nothing after 7. I have not struggled much with the desire to eat when the window is shut. As I say- I sometimes want the different textures- creamy, crunchy, etc. and that can be hard. I feel that I conveniently forgot
about the part where one eats only if hungry...sometimes I just eat when the window is open- even if my tummy is full. Maybe that is why I am losing so slowly.

[fast5] Re: how much weight loss?

It is total depend on you. I think first you have to measure your current weight because according to your weight, you can plan your diet. If you want to reduce 20 kgs, then you have to put extra efforts for losing weight.

Re: [fast5] Re: Rick's meal choices

Yes, eggs are magic when it comes to appetite! I think they are beginning to understand *why* ... has to do with types of amino acids and a chemical called orexin, but the yolks also have some kinds of fats that the body needs, but are hard to get from most food sources.

I love eggdrop soup too! My favorite quickie soup is to use miso paste. Boil the water, add the eggs slowly to make the egg-drop. Then mix the miso paste with a little hot water to make it more liquid, and mix it in after the heat is turned off, so the miso doesn't boil (that kills some of the good taste). Add some fresh chopped green onions and enjoy! Miso is loaded with good vitamins and it keeps forever in the fridge, so it's easier than opening a can of soup, even!

You just don't, problem solved.

It's great that you have made it so far now, but I would really encourage you not to leave off meat or other good low-carb sources of energy. Indeed, if I were to eat the things you listed as your healthy choices to eat until Christmas, I would be constantly STARVING and would probably gain weight. Hope that doesn't happen to you, but if it does, you might want to flip your plan and focus on eating more meat, eggs, fish, and healthy fats like coconut oil and real butter. I would especially minimize the legumes and fruit. I definitely agree that pasta is not a good thing to be eating, but you could replace it with some shiritaki noodles, if you like them.

Best of luck!

thanxs Sam for your encouragement. I love it too and the word MOST of the time is good for me becasue I will not be able to eat this way all the time but MOST of the time or at least I'll try. What I am finding is that I get full alot faster than a couple of weeks ago and I don't get as hungry the next day. So lets move forward and perservere on this amazing eating plan that can be a lifetime way of eating. Thanxs again

first.... congrats, you are doing great.
second... don't worry about not sticking to it 100% everyone is going to slip once in a while and the longer you stay on fast 5 the more you like it and don't want to "slip". i went on vacation last week and ate too much and outside my window and i was miserable. so glad to be back but it did make me realize how much i like fast 5 and even more i don't want to go off it.
third... never say never to any food. giving yourself an ultimatum makes it hard for you and if (when) you slip you make yourself feel bad. tell yourself you will "I will only eat fruit, vegetables and legumes, no wine, no meat and no pasta... MOST of the time."

OR... ignore me and do your own thing lol. that's one thing i love about fast 5, it is very individual. make your own window, eat your own food, do your own thing!
