Re: [fast5] Fast-5 not working... does anyone have any tips?

I should also add that some people have gotten a kick start from:

1. Going low-carb. Some people do seem to not lose weight until they cut carbs WAY down. I've seen that a lot on this list: you can search the archives for more details, I think.

2. Going low-fat. What I did was replace most of my fats with MCT, and eat less fatty meat, no beer, and less fructose. I did this originally to lower my uric acid levels (which it did) but I also lost a nice chunk of weight in the process. This low-uric acid diet looks rather Asian ... lots of rice and fish and vegies. About the opposite of #1, but it works well for me.

3. Eating more eggs. Dunno why exactly, but eggs are magic. Vinegar and lemon juice are similarly magic ... tea with lemon juice not only stops hunger pangs, but also seems to help with weight loss.

From reading Dr. Richard Johnson's book (or what he writes on the web) one of the triggers to weight gain is fructose, and fructan-containing foods. These trigger high uric acid levels. I think Fast-5 changes the uric acid levels for the better, somehow. But cutting out excess fructose seems to work for some people. Most starches are glucose-based, and do not contain fructose. But wheat contains fructans, which break down into fructose. Which makes me wonder if that is the secret in "wheat belly".

Weight loss seems to be a lot about gene-triggering. We are just now beginning to even understand that genes get triggered, much less which ones get triggered by what. Main thing is: you are an experiment of one, so, experiment! Your body decides at some level how much fat it wants to store, and it does that based on various environmental triggers ... stress and sleep are two, and food is a huge one also.

Another tip from my daughter. She wanted, basically, to have one of those wonderful slim waists that you see in movies. She does Medieval re-enactments, and the costuming is a big deal. What she did finally was get a corset, just like they would have done back then. She says it helps her back and her posture, but also, it just makes her look awesome. The problem is, humans have a lot of guts, and they do get bloated even if there isn't a lot of fat there. Corsets kind of re-shape everything. Done correctly, they can be good for you too, and comfortable.

I female, 5'3", and currently weigh 138.  I am supposed to eat approx 1350 for weight loss, so I stay between 1250-1450 calories during my eating window.  I stay away from sweets and empty calorie foods.  I eat about 75 gm of protein per day.  I workout (cardio and weight lifting) 5 days per week for 45-60 minutes.

On the bright side, I haven't gained any weight.

Re: [fast5] Fast-5 not working... does anyone have any tips?

Seems like you are very close to your ideal weight. Since you also work out, you may even have more bone or muscle than average. At that point maybe you should be ignoring the scale and measuring body fat (using calipers maybe). My daughter is quite athletic and weighs more than anyone ever suspects. I've told her for years to just ignore the scale ... she looks REALLY GOOD in her clothes, and while her thighs are bigger than average, it's all muscle. Muscle weighs a lot.

The body builders use some tricks to lose that last bit of fat, but it just doesn't budge as easily. And I'm not sure it should: if a person is eating right and is healthy, what is the goal in being skinnier? Female body builders look a little weird to most people too ... women should have a layer of fat to be healthy (and fertile!). Fast-5 is a good way to live life and has good health effects ... I used it originally to help my digestion, and it did.

Re: [fast5] Fast-5 not working... does anyone have any tips?

Hang in there, Kristi. The science works.
but
Everyone is different.

D'uh, I know, but I am 64, always been very fit (am a sailor) but 'porked up' in the last 18 months as had a hip replacement & had gained about 14 lbs before I had the op. I lost 3 pounds the first week.  I simply started the 19 hrs fast from day one & I have been assiduous in observing the 19 hrs. Seven weeks in and I have now lost 9 lbs. including 2 'plateaus' where nothing was moving. I started off weighing myself everyday and think that's not a great idea. I now check the scales once week coz micro-managing this only leads to frustration.

I agree with Linda; look for your loss in measurements or how your clothes feel not just the scales. I'm a woman and believe me it is waaaay harder to lose at this age. But it is the best & easiest body-management routine I've ever tried. I eat everything  - wine included - during my break fast ( 6.30 - 10pm ) as I plan to just carry on like this as it really suits me.

So check the ebook for encouragement & know the science works.

[fast5] Re: Supplements in the evening and sleep

I take supplements with my evening meal, and I have no problems sleeping at all. What supplements are you taking? Perhaps they contain a stimulant.
