Re: [fast5] Re: Medicine/vitamins

I would tend to agree with "don't worry about meds". Here are a couple
of other thoughts though that might help:

1. You can take pills instead of the liquid. Pills really don't have
much of anything in the way of calories.

2. Bacteria and viruses really HATE heat. Which is why your body
generates a fever when it gets sick. However, your nose is always a
bit cold, which is why cold viruses use your nose and sinuses for
"home base".

So ... one totally non-caloric thing you can do is use a heating pad
over your nose and sinuses. Ideally, once every hour or two. It really
does make a difference, not to mention it feels good. You can put it
on your chest too, for chest congestion. I use either an electric pad
or a bag with flax seeds in it, heated in the microwave. The
"microwavable" pads they sell at the store with plastic in them didn't
work well at all: I overcooked it and it got destroyed.

Only caveat: be careful not to burn yourself. I haven't had that issue though.

3. A Neti pot or nasal wash, esp. one with half salt/half xylitol,
will do a good job at washing out gunk and also keeping viruses from
multiplying so fast. Plus it feels good. But might not be easy to do
when your nose is full of gunk ...

4. I have never actually gotten a cold when I have raw garlic in my
diet. I tend to use a hot sauce that I make a lot, mainly because I
like it, but it turns out that the only cold I've gotten in 5 years
was when I was travelling and didn't have my sauce! It is basically
ground garlic, red pepper, vinegar, ginger. So if you like spicy food,
I recommend indulging. Otherwise, some people make a "tonic" by
soaking those ingredients in vinegar, then decanting the vinegar and
taking a spoonful of it daily.
