See, this is the kind of story that should have been included in the Fast-5 books. There is lots of great information.
Thanks
Tara !
I like the chocolate for the window, but my doc said for the time being, no chocolate, no caffeine, and no cokes. Don't care about the last two, but the no chocolate makes me sad. L

Hi Leisa,
During weight loss my diet regimen changed at different times to increase my weight loss. Initially, when I started the program, I ate a "break-fast" snack, then dinner, followed by a window closing snack. I tried to eat less of "empty carbs" like bread, or chips and increased my intake of healthier carbs and proteins. Although, I did not really focus on specific types of foods. I learned to eat what i was hungry for even if it was chocolate. However, even as I progressed in my weight loss, I would also plateau. At plateaus, I would cut out my consumption by a serving, eventually giving up the opening window snack and then the closing window snack. At the end of weightloss to get through my last plateau, I ate only one time during my window and limited it to one plate of dinner. This satisfied me and I was fine for the next day.
It is kind of funny, but whenever I was hungry during the day (this often occurred when I was about to break out of a plateau and let go of some weight) I would tell myself to dig down deep to those well placed stores of energy and use that for fuel. So, being hungry acutally signaled potential weight loss for me.
I have never been fussy about what I ate but I try to keep things in moderation and perspective. I limit bread or snacks or any other food that does not have a specific nutritional purpose. But, I am not a slave to that rule, if I feel like a doughnut I will have one in my window. I just don't do it often or over indulge. The beauty of this way of eating is that your body really will let you know what it needs if you are able to limit intake and provide a stable routine (eating at approximately the same time each day).
Hope this answers your question!Tara

I made sure that I only stepped on the scale during my lightest time in my window, an hour or two before I broke fast because there is such a difference after I eat or drink, and I wanted to see myself at my lowest possible. I don't like to weigh often because I don't want to be obsessed with my weight. However, I am in maintenance, and I check about once a month or so just to see. I can usually tell by how my clothes fit if I have been overindulging during my window.

When I start eating to much dinner (restaurant style) or, am not active enough, I gain 1 or 2 pounds and then I start paying attention again. But, I am actually throwing out clothes that I wore out, not that I out grew. That is really nice. But I think the best part about fast-5 is that my life is no longer about food. I like food, I enjoy eating when it is time. But I don't spend the majority of my day thinking about it, planning it, eating it or cleaning it up. That was my life style of old.
