Re: [fast5] day one

hi ej,

i didn't mean to imply that i thought weight lifting would bulk me up. i know that it takes A LOT of hard work (diet, exercise, supplements, drugs, oil, air brushing, photo shoping, etc.) for those bodybuilding guys/gals to look the way they do. ;)

what i was trying to say (i guess very badly) was that -
on my weight lifting days, i can muster enough energy to just go ahead and tackle those weights
on my cardio days, forget about it! i see my treadmill or think of my aerobics videos and just want to jump back into bed.

Cassie,

Weight lifting will not necessarily bulk you up.  I do kettlebells everyday for about 20-30 minutes, 5 days a week, and walk/sprint uphill for about the same minutes once a week.

I have been on Fast-5 now for over 4 months now and so far have lost 35 pounds.  My recent blood tests came out all normal.  Not bad for a 60 year old man who have never lost this much pounds nor stick to an eating plan [like Fast-5] this long.  I strictly follow Fast-5 90% of the time with some adjustment to my eating window whenever I find it necessary.

I was concerned with losing body mass so as suggested here, I have increased my protein intake.  I feel great and my body is shaping up very well.

karen,

my problem is not with the weight lifting since i'm not trying to bulk up. my problem is the cardio. i just don't have the energy for the amount of time it takes anymore.

(Where's Rick with his great list of links for Intermittent Fasting groups who weight train?)

Cassie

From what I remember reading on the links that Rick might send thru…

On your heavier/harder lifting days, it might not hurt to have a shorter fast and then go the full 19 hours on lighter/easier lifting/resting days.

Fast5/Intermittent Fasting does not have to be an all or nothing sort of deal.  Some days you might need a bit more.

But then, once you get firmly established Fast5ing, you might not feel the need to break your fast earlier.

thanks daniel.

the issue for me with eating right after i exercise is this - it's too early.

i work out first thing in the morning (around 8 am), to get it out of the way. if i break my fast around 9 am, my last meal will be around 2 pm. my fear is that i'll be so hungry by 6 or 7 pm, i'll start cheating and snacking.

i'm giving my body a week or 2 to adjust to this new eating program. if my energy doesn't come back, i might do as you suggest and hope that i won't get hungry in the evening.

thanks.

Post exercise is probably the best possible time to break the fast. Lighten the intensity of your workouts til your body adjusts.
