You say you are eating "paleo" ... are you eating just meat or are you
also eating vegies? (Our paleo ancestors did eat a fair bit of
vegetable matter).
"The shakes" are usually from high cortisol levels: your body is
trying to force glycogen out of the muscles into your blood. If there
IS some stored glycogen, then it works, and your brain has glucose,
and you can function. If there is no glycogen, then your blood sugar
goes low and your insulin high, and that has about the same result.
You can check your blood sugar with a glycometer to see which it is.
Or experiment: if the shakes go away when you eat protein, then the
problem is likely too much cortisol, not too little glucose.
If the problem is too much cortisol (which it was in my case) then you
can "trick" your body into releasing a bit of insulin to bring down
the cortisol, by drinking some lemon juice tea or vinegar. Or even by
doing a little exercise.
If the problem is too little glucose, then your body either isn't
storing enough glycogen or can't release it efficiently. In either
case, your body might learn how to do that with enough practice. Or
you might need to eat more carbs with your meal. If you were a true
carnivore, you could create glucose from protein, but most humans
aren't very good at that (Inuit can, and I think some long-term
low-carbers do).
Anyway, you can just experiment! You will probably find that on Fast-5
you don't have to be as strict about "carbs" in general. Like you
though, I simply can't handle wheat at all, plus I can't do dairy, so
my diet is pretty "Paleo" by default. Sweet potatoes or rice though, I
love!

I've had way more energy and have had great improvements in my general health and well-being by eliminating wheat. I discovered that I have a sensitivity to gluten (not celiac) as lots of issues cleared up when I stopped eating wheat.

I started Fast-5 cold turkey on 24th Nov. It all started well and I love the way I'm starting to look as I can see some real improvements around my mid-riff which is what I wanted - BUT...I hate the way I feel!

I find it very hard to go much further than 12 noon as I start to feel nauseous and shaky and just have to eat. I've been on this for about 2 weeks and most days I seem to get a "crash" of sorts after my break-fast meal at 12noon. I get really really tired and lethargic and I don't pick up till after i have my dinner at about 6:30pm.
