The other option is to have the courage of your convictions and just tell them straightforwardly about your WOE. I've been doing this for years, and people either just accept it matter-of-factly or sometimes show real interest, and then an exchange of information ensues. Since I'm obviously doing well on it, it's hard for people to simply rubbish or dismiss.

Surely this type of reaction isn't unique to England? There's certainly nothing to make excuses about!
